➤ CAMSAT

Design and production of a set of prototype HD signal converters, 2016–2017

Contract work for CAMSAT. The project focused on developing converters between three types of high-definition analogue video signals: AHD, TVI and CVI. The result is a device that accepts any of the three formats and generates an output signal in a single selected format. The device supports automatic adaptation to the input format, resolution scaling, PTZ control and interoperation with radio devices. It was implemented as an electronic module equipped with an FPGA (Xilinx Spartan 6) and analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters dedicated to video signals. The devices developed are manufactured and sold by CAMSAT.

➤ BIOWIZ

Development and implementation of a system for identifying persons (perpetrators of crimes) from images recorded in photographs or video footage, 2015–2018

The project was carried out by a consortium of research institutions – Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology), NASK, AGH University of Krakow and the Polish Platform for Homeland Security – and was funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR). Its aim was to create a computer system supporting officers of the uniformed services in the biometric identification of persons (identification by face and/or whole silhouette) from images recorded in photographs or video footage. The system was implemented as an interactive tool enabling, among other things, face detection, extraction of video frames containing faces, tracking of faces and whole silhouettes in video sequences, and identification of persons marked in photographs or video sequences. The research of the ZIM team focused on the following tasks:

  • image quality assessment (determining suitability for further processing and analysis)
  • face detection
  • facial landmark localisation
  • face recognition

for which state-of-the-art algorithms based on convolutional neural networks were developed, offering high accuracy and efficiency.

➤ LIDER

Hardware Architectures for Multi-Source Real-Time Audiovisual Coding, 2011–2014

The aim of the project was to develop and implement a prototype of a real-time audiovisual coding system that includes generation of a multi-view disparity map. The practical outcome of the project is a hardware application running on an FPGA platform that demonstrates real-time compression of multichannel audio and multi-view video together with disparity estimation. The digital part of the system is integrated in a single FPGA device. Hardware acceleration and new encoder architectures provide higher audio-video compression performance than existing solutions. Accurate multi-view disparity estimation supports video compression and the computation of the depth map needed for 3D scene reconstruction.
